To strengthen youth transitions from education to employment, the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta (PIND) organized a Job Readiness Orientation for final-year students of Niger Delta University (NDU), Bayelsa State.
Held on November 27, 2025, the session, delivered in collaboration with PIND’s implementing partner, Aqua Green Integrated Limited, and the NDU management, forms part of PIND’s ongoing efforts to equip youths across the Niger Delta with market-relevant skills and enhance their employability prospects.
Supporting Youth with Market-Relevant Skills
The Job Readiness Orientation, spearheaded by PIND’s Youth Employment Pathways (YEP) project unit, drew over 450 participants, reflecting strong student demand for practical guidance on navigating the labour market after graduation. The sessions covered key employability areas, including career direction and personal branding, CV writing and job search strategies, entrepreneurship pathways and opportunity development, sector insights in Agriculture and ICT, as well as digital readiness and workplace technology tools.
Speaking during the workshop, Ndifreke Patrick, PIND’s YEP Coordinator, highlighted the importance of equipping students with skills that meet labor market demands and prepare them for professional success.
Representing the Vice Chancellor of NDU, Prof. Allen A. Agih, Prof. Tonbarapagha Kingdom, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), urged students to make the most of the opportunity to prepare for the competitive world of work.
The workshop was also attended by senior officials of the university, including professors, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and the Head of the Department of Fisheries.
Key Outcomes of the Workshop
By the end of the Job Readiness Orientation, students were able to:
- Identified effective strategies for CV writing, personal branding, and job searching
- Understood the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and opportunity development
- Gained insights into sector-specific skills in Agriculture and ICT
- Applied digital tools for workplace readiness and professional development
- Received constructive feedback on CVs and business pitches, with top entries earning recognition and support
Looking Ahead
The Job Readiness Orientation successfully enhanced students’ understanding of employability and entrepreneurship principles. Equipped with practical knowledge, hands-on guidance, and personalized feedback from facilitators, participants left the workshop more confident in navigating the transition from university to professional life.
The event also reaffirmed PIND’s commitment to empowering youth across the Nine Niger Delta states, strengthening their skills, and expanding opportunities for meaningful economic participation. Through its Youth Employment Pathways Project and ongoing initiatives, PIND is committed to supporting young people in building the foundation for successful careers and entrepreneurial ventures.
